implement fund-raising strategies and activities for institutional
prospects at the highest levels to carry forward the mission and
vision of Mayo Clinic. The Development Senior Director will
represent Mayo in the global market place to qualify, cultivate,
solicit and steward principal gifts prospects and align benefactor
interests with the strategic objectives of the institution. The
Development Senior Director will manage a portfolio of
approximately 125 prospective principal benefactors and will
partner with the Chair of Principal Gifts and Leadership,
Department Chair and institutional leaders to develop and implement
strategies for gifts of $5,000,000 and above. Development
professionals at Mayo Clinic are required to adhere to the 'Donor
Bill of Rights' and ethical standards set forth for the department
and the institution. The Development Senior Director will be a
highly experienced development professional with demonstrated
ability to build and nurture effective working relationships with
institutional leaders, medical faculty, administration, staff and
volunteers in coordinating donor cultivation and recognition. The
position will keep abreast of clinical, research, education and
administrative initiatives across Mayo Clinic; work collaboratively
with department staff to ensure proper documentation,
acknowledgment and recognition for principal giving; collaborate
with Corporation and Foundation Relations colleagues to pursue
institutional donors and with the Office of Gift Planning to
encourage planned gifts; serve as an effective spokesperson and
representative for Mayo Clinic and its strategic funding
priorities; and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and
support of the departmental mission, values and best fundraising
practices.QualificationsA bachelor's degree is required. A master's
degree and/or fund-raising certification is preferred. Requires ten
years' experience in qualification, cultivation, solicitation and
stewardship of benefactors; a track record of securing annual
cumulative gifts of $10,000,000+; cumulative dollars raised of $50
million+; and a demonstrated track record of advancing
relationships with principal benefactors as demonstrated by
securing repeat 7 and 8+-figure principal gifts. In addition,
experience with international philanthropy at the principal gift
level is preferred. Incumbent must be a self-motivated,
self-directed and highly organized individual who will promote a
productive, collegial workplace and be a professional ambassador
for Mayo Clinic at the highest levels. Belief in the mission and
strong ethical conduct are essential. A valid driver's license and
a good driving record are required, along with the ability to
travel extensively on all forms of major public transportation.
Willingness to travel domestically and abroad. Requires excellent
oral and written communications skills, a broad-based knowledge of
fund development and the ability to work in a complex environment
with multidimensional points of view. The incumbent must be able to
work effectively in a consensus-style operation that expects and
promotes teamwork. Must be comfortable with ambiguity. Must possess
the ability to inspire trust and confidence and communicate
effectively with internal and external audiences, both domestic and
international. The ability to serve as a role model by working
independently, managing multiple projects and maintaining a high
degree of professionalism and confidentiality is essential. Must be
proficient in the use of information technology and management of
